Imarc has been growing – a lot! 2020 will bring new faces, new ideas, and new routines. What has remained constant is our passion for improving how we do things and how we give back to the community. We are fortunate to be located near some incredible volunteer organizations that we are involved in. Here are some of the things we are most excited about this year.
Going green
This year, Imarc will focus on being a greener, more sustainable company. A group of dedicated Imarcians started “The Green Team” last summer. As a group, they have come up with better ways to do things around here (some small, some large). Some of the big changes have included more sustainable office products, switching from plastics to compostable dishes, improving our recycling system, limiting single-use plastic waste throughout the company, and purchasing “cleaner” (pun intended) cleaning supplies.
We know that little efforts can go a long way, and these easy changes can add up. As we look ahead, we plan to minimize our overall consumption of products and energy as a company.
Trading screentime for daylight
This Spring (think Earth Day, people!) Imarc’s Green Team has organized an afternoon volunteering with CoastSweep. The program is sponsored by the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management, and it coordinates teams to spend an afternoon cleaning up one of the local beaches. This year, our team is heading out to one of Massachusetts’ North Shore beaches to make it a cleaner, safer environment for the community to enjoy. Check out our beach cleanup from this past fall.
Another opportunity for our team to get outside is Habitat for Humanity. This has always been an Imarc favorite; it’s a great experience to be hands-on in building these homes for local families in need. Last year, we swung hammers, moved dirt, and got the opportunity to meet and work beside those families. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with teammates in a new environment.
“Serving” the local community
We have partnered with the local food pantry Our Neighbor’s Table in their “Sponsor & Serve” volunteering opportunity. Their mission is to invite everyone in the community to join together for a meal, no matter their story. Some Imarcians have volunteered there serving dinner and stocking the pantry shelves.
We’re happy to share that later this month we will be recognized as one of the newest members of the “Spoon Platoon.” It’s a recognition and thank you for sharing our time and energy with the organization.
Sending kids back to school in style
One of our favorite events is “Operation Backpack” with a very local organization. The Pettengill House is located just a few floors above our HQ office. Throughout the month of August, the organization hosts a drive for backpack and school supplies for local students in need. A list of what the students need is shared amongst the company, and each employee contributes what they can. It’s so fulfilling to see a completed list and an overflowing box full of school supplies! It’s great to see our combined efforts helping students and investing in their futures – there may even be some future Imarcians!
The season of giving
Fresh snow and the shimmering lights of downtown Amesbury are a beautiful sight in the winter! Around the holidays, we get to see some of our other efforts pay off, as we partner with two Adopt-a-Family programs. Together, we bring joy to families in need through the Amesbury Holiday Program and the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center. These are two great local organizations that sponsor families to bring items on their wish lists to their homes for the holiday season. We have enjoyed working with these two organizations in the past, and we are excited to be able to give gifts to these families in 2020.
We look forward to making a difference at work and in our community this year and for many years to come!
