In the spirit of the new year, it can be helpful to create some resolutions for not only yourself, but for your website and brand.

If you’ve resolved to lose weight in 2017, why not trim the fat on your website as well? Utilize your analytics to see what pages are underperforming, merge pages, adjust your navigation, and cut out as much copy as you can as you make your content hyper-concise. For example, we took it upon ourselves to reduce the size of our pages and utilized several other techniques to improve page load time! No sweat!
On the web, you CAN fix ugly - and with relatively minimal effort, we can change the entire appearance of a website simply by updating fonts and colors. Experiment with your brand in the new year to keep it looking lean and mean. Often times, clients will come to us for minor enhancements to their color palette or logo, and we’re always excited to reflect those improvements on their sites!
Clients who host with Imarc also receive an hour of free maintenance every month, which can go towards everything from creating timely homepage graphics and hero images, to updating content and layouts on key pages.
Typography on the web has come a long way as well; we’re no longer tethered to the old standards. The evolution in text sizing has trended toward bigger with more white space. If your site is even a few years old, we bet you could stand to bump up your font sizes a little bit to improve readability and retention. When talking about brand personality and freshness, we can’t overlook color. A simple shift of your color palette can instantly transform a website in the same way a different coat of paint can change the entire feel of a room.
While some people make resolutions to run marathons - we made a similar pledge to improve our own site by way of a “sprint”. This means that we convened as a group, made a wish list of prioritized improvements we’d love to see made to the site, and spend a stretch of just a few days crossing items off our list. We updated our homepage video with clips from our new culture reel from Grain Digital, swapped out some old images (when did Katie have such long hair?), and updated our messaging and copy throughout the site. We also changed the way we highlight our approach and services right on the homepage, allowing new and exciting ways for our visitors to engage and learn.
Lastly, we added more visual interest and improved the functionality of our homepage blog list but showcasing featured images and updating the navigation to give visitors a “peek” and other recent posts.
We’re already planning another sprint soon, as the key to a great website is keeping it fresh!
